in my opinion - that faction proposal is a good example of - lets say... a side along evolution.
the navy is quite a behemoth ( that is the [LN] ) - it is a very old faction - probably quite set in its ways. - changing those ways might be hard.... and even if successful - tis course may not take dramatic changes ( unless forced to do so by the devs )
objectivly - i think that this new faction would be perfect as a special branch INSIDE the [LN] - which would actually provide various advantages:
- you can patrol the space much more efficiently ( like shooting idiot pirates that prance around before cruisers .... if you used cruisers )
- you d have access to FR1 to 5 etc
- if you were only "temporary" - you could easily be disbanded and integrated into the LN - or simply vanish
- if you became superpopular and "the next big thing in the liberty lawful RP" - you could peacefully.... take over the LN ( after all - thats how the re-volution of new factions vs. old factions is MEANT to happen - in our "one-faction-per-npc-faction"- concept
actually - being part of the LN doesn t have ANY downsides at all. - provided you are all accepted. - and of course depending on your freedom of choice as a commander of such a sub-unit. but if the LN didn t agree with you - you wouldn t do well as separate part of the liberty navy either - so what gives....
about the name - i, too - consider it un-fitting. thats mostly, cause we are used to think of space being plowed across in "ships" like "water" - and not as if it was air. its a matter of association.
another beneficial point about being a subfaction inside a faction is that it requires less work. - its mutual beneficial. - you don t need to care for 30 hours activity - cause you re supported by other, normal LN, and the LN gets some free activity - and who knows.... good RP.
so from my pov, the main question is not about the name or the concept itself. - its just "is there any real downside for being a part of an official faction?"
