P.S 50% chance that you'll only make it worse. Get it to the service
Don't EVER do this. You're liable to start a fire or further damage your console. If you have need to overheat the console, you should open it up (there are plenty of tutorials on this), remove the CD drive (make sure to remove any CDs first) from the box, then unplug the fans. Then put it back together (at least partways, so it's an enclosed space and the interior isn't open to the air). Leave the CD drive out. Now let it run, should take about 15 minutes to overheat. It'll give you a new light signal (I think all 4 lights solid, not blinking iirc) when it has overheated. Then you turn it off, let it cool, reopen, reattach the fans and drive, and start it back up. But you never ever use towels. This might solve the problem.

I couldn't do this on my last Xbox as I didn't have the tools for it, and the bolts were stripped even if I did; But the way to fix this permanently is to remove all interior components, including the heatsinks. Then remove the 2 X-shaped clamps at the bottom of your case. You basically need to get the electrical flow going again. You take some washers and attach them using whatever that type of adhesive is called, you'll have to look up what the name is. Then re-attach the components to the X-clamp. Keep the fans unplugged and the CD case out (just a precaution to avoid damage). Now put the case back together and make it overheat. Once it has done so, reattach the CD and fans and you should be good to go. You may need to overheat two or three times. This should fix your problem permanently. The temporary fix of just overheating doesn't always fix it, and when it does, it can last from several months to several days. So the 2nd solution is definitely adviseable. Please consult a tutorial on how to do this step-by-step.
