So here we are, 4.86 with bases and cloaking devices and such.

Yet even official factions are having a hard time maintaining a base without people devoting (IMO) unnecessary chunks of time over it.
If the ships themselves aren't even that realistic with fuels, repairs, crews... Etc, why the heck does a base need THAT much supply to maintain it?

I get we're trying to keep the base making to large factions and encourage teamwork, but this level of time spending is unnecessary. In my opinion, two people in the game should be able to keep a base running ( a low level, hidden base)

I don't see the reason how we have to supply it every 10 hours, or it goes kaboom. A base is made of metal and alloys, it doesn't blow itself up after a few hours, it stays there. Yes, a shielded base should be supplied more often, as it takes energy to power the shield.

This is my idea on a base operation:

A base should take more material to construct, and more costly.
A constructed base, should stay there ( no outside damage) for at least a month, before the server kills it. Similar to a player ship, which gets deleted from inactivity after 6 months. (the base described here is a hidden, low leveled base. It should be easy destructible if hostile player discovers it.)

When a base is under construction or production, it should require once a day resupplies. And if no supplies, production halts.

To maintain a shield around the base, it should require once every 12 hour resupply.

As for the amount of supplies needed, I think the current amounts should be at least cutted down by 30% or more. However, the materials required to make cloaking/jump drive devices should be around the same, since they're suppose to be rare and all that.

Overall, base shouldn't destroy themselves, if no supply, no production/upgrade. But a well hidden base shouldnt just kaboom by itself... After 10 hours.

Discuss.

(typed this on the iPhone, excuse me if things aren't too elaborated.)
