Born in 778 AS on Bethlehem Station, and the son of an engineer, Jonassen Bering followed in his father's footsteps initially working as a maintenance engineer on Bethlehem Station for Bethlehem Cryogenics and Luminaries. He abandoned his engineering career after saving enough money for his own spacecraft as exploration was true passion.

He spent most of his early career in space in the edge worlds charting, trading, and taking some big risks--engaging nomad fighter wings, and even flying up to Dur-Shurrikun for a close look, all in the name of curiousity. As he aged, his curiosity waned and he became a full-time merchant.

the small arms trade proved lucrative, and moving small arms gave the ways and means to outfit a transport, which became his permanent home. That transport was ultimately replaced by a bison class, which reflected his great personal wealth and also provided a capable defense. Jonassen usually traveled alone with only a small crew to operate the ship. He did not care to share his revenue with fighter escorts and the like, and the bison proved an ideal platform to achieve that end.

It was on Freeport XV that he met a merchant who told him of Ageira Technologies research projects, and he began working exclusively for them, moving bio-neural processors and Gate Parts.
