after reading a bit of this thread, ima give a few balance things i found out.
i have a battleship and 2 gunboats (1 bought) and i found a few issues with these two type of ships.
the battlesip i own is a liberty dreadnought, i asked a few people how to gear it up, and tested a few suggestions which costed me ~100 million.
i found out that the anti small ship weapons (solaris) are useless.
1. the one that spreads out the fire and shoots out often is looking cool but because the small ships are small you miss all your shots. it's a cool effect tho, i guess this works better with the anti battleship turrets (primarys) because the ships are big and you don't miss as often. also it's pretty stupid in a bs vs bs fight to hit the same spot over and over again, so i would like to try this effect on a smaller scale for the bigger anti bs guns to preserve the coolness you wanted to put in it maybe.:)
2. the one that is firing abit slower than the first i said is good at what it's meant to do (it hits small ships better) but it lacks a punch. i mean i had fight vs 3 bombers or so in my battleship (named battleship.melinda) and i killed em faster with anti battleship weapons (primary) than with that thing.
in the time they do a bomb run, i barely destroyed their shields with this guns.
how i killed a few bombers with anti bs weapons? easy, i shot solaris and they figured my solaris damage is crap so they moved in closer (also i was shooting their missiles up). i used big guns at almost point blank range when they come close (100m) and took them out like flies lol.
3. tried bs secondary weapons to kill bombers but problem is the speed. good damage and slower fire rate and slower speed and they shoot missiles outside of the battleship range means you don't hit them when they come close as much as with solaris (they should be better than these anyway) and theyr range being low means they can shoot missiles at you without problems.
now here is what i suggest:
1. for the fast fire rate vers of solaris: remove the spread thingie it's just crap. give it 2x refire rate of the other solaris, half the damage of the other and higher bullet speed (their effective hit range is ~800m), for people who like hailstone like weapons. some range so atleast the bombers shoot the missiles at you and you can shoot back - or lower their missile range so they're in your reach. (bombers try to sit outside of your anti small ship weapons range and throw missiles at you which you usually you can down anyway).
2. the slower refire version of solaris needs speed and a bit more damage (800smth it does now gives you barely nothing) because you can (at best) down a bomber shield before he nukes you and tries to gtfo. give it half the refire rate of the faster solaris for people who like to aim more not just shoot stuff against people. range and speed abit so you can hit them (effective hit range is at ~800m) and that you keep bombers missile range in your firing range. i mean, if you have 2km range on guns, their missiles should have 1800-2000m range not 800:P
atm these guns are great to shoot down enemy missiles heading your way, nothing more. they do a better job than flak.
3. the secondary turrets damage is fine, but range and speed is not because again they're to defend your ship vs other small ships which atm can shoot missiles at you from outside your guns range. these weapons effective range is ~550-600m so unless the enemy pilots are totally bad and get reaaaally close to you, you can't even defend yourself. these ones aren't as good as solaris guns to shoot enemy missiles down because the fire rate is lower.
other balance is good, for 200 players on at peak time, 3 bombers should have a fair chance of kill a battleship of any kind.
atm you can piss off the hell outta bomber pilots with a battleship because they all shoot missiles at you and you can kill those and make them either lose it or just let you be, but you can't really kill them back either (unless they get mad and come close haha)
gunboats; i have 2. a hessian (bought) one named deneb3 and a liberty rogue one named ymiron.
problems with their guns: the one i bought haves 3 anti shield weapons (smth pulse guns which eats up loads of energy - dont rememberr name now) and 3 anti hull weapons (razors). this is good for blowing up transports lol, i think the previous owner was pirate. best for big guns display and all.
the one i made i tried to do it with what liberty rogues sell on that base which is in the middle of god damn nowhere in that cassinni sistem. i bought 3 normal turrets 1 gunboat razor to threaten traders to pay up and 2 cerberus.
the problem i found is this - the normal turrets are good at killing small ships and enemy fighters die like np (guess that's a gunboat role, to hunt small ships outta existence) but the cerberus is useless. it won't hit small ships (low bulet speeed) and i thought it's a wepon for anti big ships. well it's damage sucks (bad against other gunboats i tried fighting), so not worth using.
that means i gotta either copy that guy's gb i bought weapon setup to kill big ships or to get full normal turrets to kill small ships. it can't be done (the ship weapons) to be good vs both?
