Wisdom of Discovery

Introduction

WoD is a new Disco forum game in the making, currently being worked on by me and two of my friends. We decided that apart from usual contests that are held in-game, there is an extreme lack of contests and competitions held on the forums which are not directly related to Freelancer's gameplay. Many people live in different timezones, many have work in the evening or night, so, obviously, there is a large chunk of our members who are left out.

Hosting an RP tournament also seems irrational, because due to the fact that each individual has their own sense of RP quality, it would end up having to have a group of judges and relying on people to do their part is annoying.

WoD is our current timesink. All of the prizes won here come out of our own pockets, but we do accept donations. For now, the game will be hosted via text posts on the forum.

The gist of WoD is to give the community members a chance to make use of their brain without the usage of sites like Google. In other words, the questions and riddles will test not the individual's knowledge of history or the arts or such, instead, the game will focus on testing a person's logical thinking, intuition and insight.

Currently there are only two game modes, so to speak. WoD Daily, where one question will be given each day and the winner will receive a cash prize. And WoD Sunday, where the winner will receive the contents of a special dedicated bank. It means that community members can tip in for the weekly grand prize.

For now while we have our own money, we will keep the game free to participate in. Because that is fun. However, since our amount of funds are limited, donations are still accepted.

How To Play

There are currently two game modes.

WoD and WoDSaturday

WoD Daily is a game, funded by the game creators.

1) Every day at 12:00PM (midday) server time, a question thread will be posted in the Discovery RP 24/7 General Discussions section, titled ''Wisdom of Discovery question X MM/DD/YYYY'' with the information and question inside. You have until midnight to answer the question.

When you reply to the thread to answer the question, add your character name at the end, so we know where to send the prize to.

2) Replies to the thread should only be related to answering the question. All other posts will be removed.

3) All of the replies have a chance to receive the prize

4) The posts containing the replies can not be edited, so please think through what you will answer.

5) Posting multiple answers by using forum alts is forbidden.

6) If none of the replies get the answer correctly, I fraps myself logging in, rolling a dice, depending on the amount of answers, and the number it rolls will receive the prize.

7) The first reply (by reply number) to get the question right, wins the prize. Duplicate posts will not get any compensation.

8) Once the server clock hits midnight, the answer will be posted by the thread creator and added to the opening post. The winner will receive the fixed money prize mentioned in the opening post, having the sum transferred to the character name they specified in their post. A screenshot with the transfer will be provided.

WoD Saturday is a one day special, hosted on the last day of the week. The prize, however, is sponsored by the community members and, depending on the size of donations, may or may not be larger than the daily prize. The size of the prize will remain unknown to everyone (even the Topic Owner) until it reaches midnight.

During the course of the week, community members are encouraged to send their tributes to character named WoDS

During the week, the character will not be logged on to. Once it is Sunday midnight, the character will be logged on, the transactions will be SSed and posted on the thread along with the correct answer to ensure the players see where their contributions go to.

The rules of the thread stay the same as for WoD Daily.

[color=#33FF33]The first WoD Daily question will be posted on April the 25th at 12pm (midday) server time. The answer will be posted later that day at midnight. The first WoD Sunday question will be posted on April the 29th at 12pm server time.

Q&A

1. Why do you only give 12 hours to reply to the question?
A: We understand that 12 hours might not be enough and might not be fair for US members, but this is the longest timer we can spare to ensure a fast flowing game.

2. Why is the WoDS prize unknown to us?
A: Because it adds to the fun. That and since we log that character in once a week, it will make it easer to keep track of who sends how much and when. This way we can ensure the donators that their money goes for that exact purpose by posting the cash log along with the correct answer.

3. How long can you support the daily prizes with your current bank?
A: At least a week. This will be the trial period of this event.

4. How can we know that your friends aren't replying to the thread to win the money?
A: Because those people are paying for the prize out of their pockets. That and they are forbidden to participate in the contest.

5. How large are the daily prizes?
A: We will start slow with 20-30 million credits per question. If the game catches on and we will have donations, the prizes will grow.

6. Will the prizes only include ingame credits?
A: For now, yes. Later on we will start including other items along with the money prize, such as ships or rare ingame items.

7. Why not post the answers by PM?
A: For people not to cry about conspiracies, we want them to see their own answers. The questions will not be that easy anyway, so there is no gain of trying to copy an existing reply.

8. What do I lose if I get the answer wrong.
A: Nothing.

9. You say that you try to eliminate timezones, but it is still first come-first serve.
A: That would be correct if the answers were so easy that anyone can answer them in one or two words. The questions we picked depend heavily on interpretation and rational thought. We have one set answer ready for them, it is up to the contestants to get it right.

HOW TO DONATE

If you wish to donate to the WoD Sunday bank, simply send your money to the character named WoDS. Upon posting the answer, the character will be logged on and all of the contributions will be SSed and posted along with it.

If you wish to donate to the game creators and help us rise the daily prizes, send your money to WoDD.

Donations are purely optional, but encouraged.
