i don't usually smuggle things, but i would say use a civilian transport and i'd say use the trade lanes, but jump out at least 8k from the place where the trade lanes end, because when i had pirate chars, i jumped out early to avoid police at planets/bases, u get around fast, but more risk, i'd say it's worth the risk for the speed.
