100 Years' War
Battle of Hastings
World War I
To name but a few.
Just to note, the Normans weren't French at the time. William the Conquered and his lot were Danish pirates (Vikings), who had been raiding the French coast for centuries. The King of Paris (calling the France of that period 'united' is a joke) eventually gave the entire province to those same pirates as a bribe to leave him alone. This worked admirably, seeing as they stopped pillaging France and invaded England instead.
The more you know. I also have my doubts that the player factions can really do much to make Gallia popular. I'll humour ya though. It'll be interesting to see what cones of it.
