Well, it can be kinda hard to raise interest to this. Maybe nobody reads the events subforum? You may try to advertise this ingame, somehow draw attention to this...
I would participate personally, though I don't have a suitable ship, but I will even make one if this comes to life.

/edit: It seems there will be some difficulties with mining bonuses, example:
BMM has x4 bonus in Dublin, IMG has x3 bonus, most likely BMM team will win
Try to choose something that will give equal chances to miners:
