.. Well, earlier today I decided I wanted to find a CODENAME. A certain CODENAME, though - The ARCHANGEL.
So I floated along to the wreck and got one, and returned later to get another.
I had been using a pair of Improved Debilitators and a pair of Thor's Hammers on my Avenger for quite some time now, and when I learned there was a gun that hit harder I decided I wanted it. I don't mind 2.00 guns, they aren't bad at all for certain scenarios, especially if you're one of those oddballs who likes having a free gunport for a missile or something fun along those lines.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm unimpressed with the ARCHANGEL. In my opinion, it's worthless in comparison to the other 2.00 CODENAMEs (though I haven't seen the EXCALIBUR up close, so I'm not sure how good it is in contrast).
You'll note that they are basically the same gun with the exception of one very critical element - energy usage. There's not much to be gained by using an ARCHANGEL over a THOR's HAMMER, but quite alot to be lost. I'm not sure as to why this is, exactly - I assume things are done this way intentionally to prevent VHFs from pairing ARCHANGELs (it's not really viable to do unless you intend to relying on just that pair of guns). The ARCHANGEL is obviously Bomber friendly, but is there anyway we can get that energy usage knocked down abit..? It's not really that important, but it really would be nice to be able to use these guns on a VHF with a pair of shieldbusters (Improved Debilitators, for example).
I suppose I could go with lesser variants like the Advanced Debilitators, but then again it doesn't really seem worth it when I can just keep the Thor's Hammers and be dandy. Currently though, I've found that the ARCHANGEL just really isn't worth mounting on a VHF at all (unless it's a Bomber) simply due to the fact that it uses so much more energy for no real substantial gain at all (or so it seems).
