Hm, this is weird, I don't understand why you're all talking about some software or weapon groupings. By default, each single weapon can be shot separately by pressing the number keys. I use this feature every day with my pirate transport, because the transport turret's refire rate is 2.00. The shots are deadly, but hitting some patriots, barracudas, defenders, dragons or drakes, virtually any fighter can become a problem.

So, here's what I do. I quickly press a few weapon keys, like 1-2-3 and hit the right mouse button afterwards. When the weapons don't drain my power source too much, I can keep firing for as long as I want.

Reason two: the NPC's are regenerating using one battery at a time. so, if I hit them like once per two seconds, all I do is drop their shields. That doesn't happen if I use this volley technique. All in all, this is only useful when one doesn't hit his target at all with his/hers non-rapidly firing guns.
