That's the point. You're thinking is very pragmatic. Something you would expect from educated intelligent person who is not affected by ideology, religion or other demagogy. And xenos, on the other hand are tied by ideology. So all you have to decide is which way to go in the scales Pragamtism <-> Fanatism. You can't have both. And from opinion I've formed about xeno npc faction .. there is nothing pragmatic about them. The sole idea to abolish foreign trade, the primary stone on which entire Liberty economy stands on is harmful to whole house.
So now to say that we carebear about others is rather silly for an ideologicly infuenced person who doesn't take in concideration other point of view but his own. Besides, even point blank morons will have supporters from planets. After all, I'm sure there is a lot of undercover xenos living in planets.
It's not like whole faction populus lives in bases, right?
