the cockpit and the body look good. the tailfin and the wings are strange. i like the concept of four wings that are bend upwards, cause its something unique - but they don t really fit. the tail looks like somehting stuck there that doesn t belong there.
the proportions of the ship are good though. its wide enough - and the length appears OK. what i could think of is to give the body a slight downwards curve so that the engines are in an 20% angle from the horizontal. for the wings and tail, you ll have to work out something else. maybe look at the borderworld series - how they do the wings - or the eagle. maybe the liberty fighters - cause they describe a bend down curve, too.
right now - the ship looks like a " W ". if you tried to make it more like a " / - \ " or a " >-< " it might look more elegant.
about the plane look - if you get rid of the wings at all - and instead try to work on something more vertically, it will loose its plane look. ( as an example: BHG fighters )
when i look at it right now. it looks like a solid civilian family vehicle. nothing too fancy ( like a sportscar ) and not a military ship ( it looks too harmless ) - but it looks like its safe with its rather bulky shape.
what you can try is to get rid of fins and wings at all - and just work on the body. make it rounder ( the cockpit is quite round ) and give it distinctive parts. ( i know its rediculous - bit when i scetch a ship, i think of parts like cockpit, engines, fuel tanks, thrusters, and extra space for equipment - put those together and squeeze it into a ship body ) think of what part might be located where - and maybe try to give it a shape - if its visible on the outside chassis. ( like exhausts in the thrusters, coolant intakes in the engine part, antennaes in the electronics part etc )
