Topic: Final Log

This is it, my final log. For 8 years I and my crew have been mapping jumpholes and surveying planets in the event that we would have to evacuate our home again. In the Crayter Sector it was mother nature, this time it was the Gallic Royalists forcing us out of the Taus.

I'm tired of it all, and some seem to have noticed. Last week I went to a formal lunch with a group of wealthy Pecos business tychoons. Hundreds of Colonials already made their fortunes in Deuterium, and experienced military officers have been in high demand in the private sector ever since we settled on terra firma. I get invitations and job proposals in my inbox on a weekly basis, and I never respond. This time it was different though. They said they'd left behinda Celestra Transport on Sabah Shipyard to ensure I had means of transportation to attend their lunch in New Hope East, and they said the ship was mine to keep regardless. They were serious.

I've spent much of my career mapping jumpholes, objects and solars - quick ways in and out of Gallia, allied bases and other strategic information. They want me to do the same thing basicly but with more advanced equipment, mapping hyperspace coordinates instead. And this job doesn't require going deep into hostile territory, gambling with the lives of my crew. It's a civilian venture with the purpose of easing jump trading forward, to the benefit of all of Sirius.

The flagship in the group of ships under my command has been utilizing jump technology on an experimental basis, and I think it's going to revolutionize they way we experience and use space. It's just the beginning, jump technology is going to be making its impact on the general public of Sirius as more and more of these devices reach the open market. There is a growing need for reliable coordinates. If the Colonials are ever going to prosper, we need a strong civil society. It's my belief that New Hope needs a strong economy more than a strong military. I took their job offer.

So this is my last log as captain, and as a commander of the Colonial Military. In a month from now I can hopefully change that title to CEO of Euclidean Space if everything goes well.

Commander Samson S. Clarke out.
