Well, after having a couple of hours of thought, I agree with both Blunt and Unseelie. Basically, the Canadian systems can go one way or the other. (No offense to any Canadians :$)
I came up with an idea however. Either keep the Canadian names and make them independent systems like Magellan and Bering, or rename them to Oregon Territory systems and write roleplay about a great migration into the (sorta) western systems. It would closely mirror the "Oregon Trail" period in American history where the systems are unexplored and mostly rugged, undeveloped. The Jumpholes only appeared recently so while the government is busy constructing Jumpgates so as to keep a hold on the systems, criminals prey on the newly settled civilians. (Perhaps civilian NPCs getting attacked by Rogue NPCs and the like)
This idea came to me on the drive home, so really it's just a brainstorm.:)
"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."
