Big Bad Man is stopped by a dying monkey at the mouth of a cave inhabited by the bear. The man is about to kill the monkey, but the bear kills the man, helps the monkey, then goes back into his cave.
Monkey is safe, Bear is safe, Man is gone.

Alternatively, bear helps the man. Monkey dies, man has a straight path to the cave. Man invades cave, kills bear, and makes the cave his new home. Monkey is dead, bear is dead, big bad man thrives.
