the LF should not be able to make a journey that is further than one system away - and only if that system also has tradelanes.
the spatial is meant to travel long distances without lanes and also multiple jumps through natural jumpholes and jumpgates without harm.
people do not roleplay such weaknesses of course - so yeah you are right - if we only look at the good sides - a LF is a better choice for an explorer. if you want to ROLEPLAY an explorer - you should pick a SHF or a freighter ( or something even larger )
and to add to the thread
since it was mentioned - the orca also got a facelift cause the speedboat isn t too popular - or so it seemed regarding to some ancient threads
I get obviously that a light fighter wouldn't be the best ship for exploring, and I have tended to stay away from them for exploring. I don't however think that there is anything in lore limiting them from being used for that. They aren't very good at handling certain types of navigational hazards, but other than that there isn't any major limiting factor.
There are smaller ships in the game that apparently can stay space-borne for many months. These are not much bigger so surely the light fighters could fly for a while. Given that these are fission or fusion engines or something even more advanced I'm sure there is a high level of fuel efficiency. I think that they could fly for several hours and as you only need some minutes to cross a large system I would say that any light fighter could very well fly across Sirius as long as it was with using jump holes.
By the way you don't save too much time with a 400 ship over 350. Flying something with 400 over something with 350 you say 7 or so minutes on an hour. Flying with something 400 over 395 you save less than a minute.
so I recently started exploring Coronado. I must say you're all doing a wonderful job.
so I recently started exploring Koeln. I must say you're all doing an amazing job.
some time ago I explored Rousillon. Impressive. Particularly the music on the planet that was a nice surprise.
so I recently started exploring Omega-55. LOL... NOMADS. LOTS AND LOTS OF NOMADS. SHOOTING THINGS. I GOT THE HELL OUT OF THERE. (and I was thinking, jeez I can't remember what that one was from the news. I hope I don't run into a nomad system)
recently started exploring Omega-41. what did you guys do to the star? that new effect there, that's impressive.
