Right, I've had several ideas while playing Disco-FL, and this is just one of them. It's basically about making the Miner-ID a little "branched-out" in terms of what they're trying to harvest.

I'm thinking of introducing 3 new ID's, plus giving the current Miner ID a name-change, and a few new commodities to cater for one of the ID's. In terms of rules-wise, they're essentially the same, but their difference is in their bonus to specific commodities:

Quote:Asteroid Miner ID
  1. Description: The afformentioned-Miner-ID with a name-change, focuses on mining ore and minerals.
  2. Mining Turret: Drilling Laser
  3. Bonuses: Ores in general
  4. Factions with Imp. Bonuses: BMM, IMG, DHC, Kishiro/Samura, GMS, etc.

Quote:Salvager ID
  1. Description: Basically the glorified janitors of Discovery, focuses on salvaging from debris fields, waste dumps, and areas of heavy fighting. I don't know if it's possible, but if it can be done the aim of this ID is to allow pilots to salvage EQUIPMENT. That's right: people carrying this ID would be able to salvage low/mid-level guns/launchers/shields/bots/etc. from select sites, allowing for a whole new lucrative trade.
  2. Mining Turret: Salvage Laser
  3. Bonuses: Scrap Metal, Toxic Waste, MOX, Plutonium, (Equipment)
  4. Factions with Imp. Bonuses: Junkers, Gallic Junkers, ALG, Hogosha, etc.

Quote:Researcher ID
  1. Description: Focuses on getting the really-rare, exotic stuff found in Sirius. This is where I come in to add a few commodities. See, I felt that there should be a difference between derelict and active artifacts, so I propose that the former be mineable stuff called Depleted Nomad Power Cells and Derelict Sirian/Gallic Artifacts (using the current images for Artifacts/Gallic Artifacts), while the "active" versions be simply called Sirian/Gallic Artifacts and Nomad Power Cell (all three use the image of the current Derelict Nomad Artifact). The derelict versions are mineable in select archaeological nebulae, while the active versions can only be bought on static-stations. Both versions can be used in the manufacture of cloaks and etc, obviously the latter is for more advanced models.
  2. Mining Turret: Spectral Analyzer
  3. Bonuses: Alien Organisms, Iridium, Prometheum, (Derelict Artifacts)
  4. Factions with Imp. Bonuses: Corsairs (Derelict Sirian Artifacts), Zoners / BHG (Iridium), GMS / EFL (Prometheum), Planetform / Cryer (Alien Organisms), etc. [don't know who provides for the Gallic artifacts]

Quote:Nebula Miner ID
  1. Mining Turret: Nebula Pressurizer
  2. Description: Focuses on mining the more liquid/gaseous commodities. I picture that the infrastructure for mining nebulae is different from mining ore in asteroids, hence why this ID should exist.
  3. Bonuses: Hydrocarbons, Oil, Helium, Helium-3, Deuterium, Neon, Oxygen, Water
  4. Factions with Imp. Bonuses: GMG (H-fuel-based), EFL (Petrol-based), Zoners (Deuterium-based), etc.

The list is still a draft, and maybe I missed a few things. Yes, I know this idea looks like a monumental task, but this seems to me like a cool feature that would help diversify the possibilities of the mining mod, and help make things have a lot more sense (why can't the Corsairs have bonuses to mine artifacts? why can't the GMG do what they're NAMED to do and mine gas?).

Quick edit: not sure if GMG still can't mine gas, or that they could now, haven't been updated on their status as true miners
