The Escape

The lower levels of Freeport 9
13 December 819 AS, 18:32

Dave sat in his cell, waiting for the guard to turn around, as he did every few minutes. He still didn't know why he did that, but it would come in handy.
He'd been detained by the Order until they could get a ship through to move him elsewhere and frankly, he was getting bored.
As soon as the guard turned around, Dave jumped him and tried to snap his neck.
"What the-" said the guard.
"This is... harder than it looks," said Dave, reaching for the guard's pistol instead. He took it out of the holster and held it to the guard's head. "I don't really know much about these things, but if you call for backup, I'm going to shoot you. Now, you're going to help me escape."
"No I'm not," said the guard, "I know how these things work."
"Well, you don't have much of a choice."
"Whether or not I help you, I'm dead anyway."
"Exactly. So why not put it off for a while?"
The guard reluctantly agreed and started tapping on a console.
"I've opened the door and messed with most of the cameras. Will you please not point a gun at my head?"
"OK. But I'm keeping the gun."
Dave followed the signs to the facility's exit and back into the main area of Freeport 9.
"Well, that was easy."

Back in the room he'd rented, Serena was preparing a file.
"Wait, what? How did you escape? Where were you?" she asked.
"You probably wouldn't believe me." replied Dave.
"Right... There's a file here," she said, handing Dave a memory stick, "I'd get out of here before sending this."
"Right. OK."

Dave took the memory stick and headed off the Freeport. He had a feeling that life would be rather more interesting from now on.
