The BDS not react because it was not contacted IRPly. How is the BDS supposed to react IRP from a few people that chose to complain OORPly in general discussion rather than an IRP comm thread?

Please note that while there were a couple of IRP posts done, the people were informed that they could fix their reputation or contact the BDS to be placed on the green list. They chose not to do so.

The ONLY government post to the BDS was this public press conference addressed to the whole of Sirius. While there was one other post it was neither approved by the government nor were the demands made in that post approved by the government so it was removed.

An ultimatum which demands not a simple IFF change but that the station be turned over to another faction, without offer of compensation. That is rather severe for a first contact.

True to an extent. IRPly or OORPly just giving up the base is not an option, especially since it involves not being compensated for doing so. The IRP losing credibility is also a factor but to a lesser degree to losing a few billion credits.

Besides, even if the base was given to the KSP after destroying the gun platforms...the KSP would have an unarmed base to take care of and would have to go through the process of rebuilding all the WPs...not really a good solution from the government.

Well, IRPly the BDS have asked the prime minister several questions and for evidence to warrant such an extreme demand on first contact. The prime minister has chosen not to reply yet, so a counter proposal cannot be entered.

There is also the fact that the base still shot at certain ships with bad reputations while it had KSP or KNF IFF, including a KNF indie battleship who purposely shot at the base solely to force the base to fire on him so that he could complain that the base was shooting him.

If all that is required to get rid of a base you don't like is to make a friendly ship, force the base to shoot at you,and then whine about it for a few weeks, that's a hell of a lot easier than getting friends together with enough battleships to siege it.

There are other solutions than:

Oh I completely agree. However in this case it is the prime minister making an unreasonable demand and not responding to questions that will lead down the path to FR5's and hostilities.

As you can see, the KSP supports the base remaining as is. The BDS will give up the base if the government pays for it. Changing IFF could have been a simple matter of stating it in the skype channel. However, it was shown previously that IFF didn't really make any difference to those complaining the most.

Does the BDS want this to devolve into full blown hostilities? Of course not. Will they accept it if the prime minister continues on this course of action? Yes.
