History:

• Before the Lance: Unconventional by normal Maltese standards, the Medici family had built their fortune and connections through more medial endeavours than slavery and plantations: many homes, estates and businesses in the area were accredited to them. Due to this influence in the Florence province, Renato's early life was as independent as his sense of adventure and intrigue wished. Spending much of his time in the marketplaces, studying, training, and of course the wooing of many a bella donna, he matured into quite the Florentine gentleman. However, his father's untimely death revealed that most of their holdings were falsehoods or debt-ridden, soon reclaimed by those with a stake. Retreating to her own family with his younger siblings, Renato's mother lived a much poorer life in shame. However, Renato himself used the relationships and skills to his benefit, maintaining much of his old lifestyle as well as taking to space to find work.

• After the Lance: Among his employers were more powerful Maltese familia, including what rose to become the Contari holdings as they are now. A couple of years' work with them meant that a fine villa in the growing compound was offered to Renato along with the rank of Cavaliere. Following that, he has proven himself a skilled warrior and trustworthy addition to the Lance for an 'outsider' and earned a position in the inner circle as a Familiare. Of course, he still finds plenty of time to return to the markets and entertain the donne.
