and also, i'm not really talking about scifi in general. I'm talking specifically about large scale space wars- you know the ones with lots of starships and aliens and robots and planets and stuff, not the artsy stuff where the artist is trying to convey something meaningful through the use of "sci-fi".

Excuse me , but how do you call those movies ? History ?
You better go back and google about them , you will find that movies as being "Science fiction" genre .

And also , you will find that "Science fiction" = "SF"= "Sci-Fi"(or just Scifi on some pages) .
