Repeating the same messages over and over isn't roleplay.

Sorry, but RP is supposed to be made depending on the situation, and is supposed to change depending on the situation. /setmsg is NOT RP, it has no change depending on the environment, it's the same message over and over.
I beg the differ. How many times do people say
"Hi #t"
IRL?
How many times do people say "bye" or "see ya"
How many times do people say "shut up"? Or "bless you" when someone sneezes?
How many times do people say "f---" when something s--tty happens? Because that sounds pretty much life a irl /l1 interaction to me.
How many times do YOU say the exact same phrase to a cashier when buying something at the store? Or do you always vary your speech to make your interaction more interesting?
In fact, let's not talk about you- let's talk about movie characters, because movie characters have a pretty bad habit of repeating their #t's name in full. Some TV characters also seem to greet others the exact same way for 12 consecutive seasons, yet does that make the TV show any less dull? Would you consider yourself - or movie characters dull just because they repeat the same exact phrase over and over again?
The only use most people have for setmsg is to 1) send out a #c "help me" message, 2) send out a #t to identify target and 3) Greet people, which may or may not then initiate a conversation, (or as you guys put it, "roleplay"). While I might believe that the first sentence of a RP is /l1, I believe it is fairly impossible for the second sentence, and definitely not the third, to be /l2 or /l3, to be a preset message, unless the event in question is a pretty dull and uninteresting event in the first place. And obviously people DO use preset message depending on situation, just like you would use different phrases to greet different people. An outcast wouldn't go "Hello there #t" on a Corsair, just as a police wouldn't go "Stop #t and prepare to be inspected" on it's own navy.

"OH NO! THE ADMINS MADE A DECISION I DON'T LIKE! I'M LEAVING UNTIL THEY CHANGE IT BACK!"
It's just that since this is such a (excuse me if I say so) relatively small community, people feel like they have much more of a voice here, so they think that the kinda activism that normally won't work with other games would work here.
But as for the leaving thing, I have to say that the disabling of /setmsg, while objectionable, is just not that big of a deal. While I like /setmsg and like greeting people without misspelling their names, and like quickly sending out a call for help/backup with #c, honestly it hasn't affected my gameplay too much.
This hostility certain players display towards anyone slightly overreacting to the admin's decisions... I have to say it's not the kind of attitude that attracts new players. And you wonder why the community seems to be shrinking.
