Happend to me also, got blown up while I was trying to construct a fancy prior engagement message to a liberty navy ship. While I was typing he insta-killed me with EMP and snac.

I would do the same especially if you fly in fighter and I in bomber and you sit still after I give you engagement notice.
1 enable free-flight- I guess default key is space
2 tap short thruster
3 move your mouse at any edge of the screen
4 Type till your ship moves in circles
5 Profit?
