Of course It would be for research... Could be also used as an Diplomatical envoy
It also could be for show off...
There are many places where It could be used. We just need the right time and circumstances
and for the commandering...
I would like to suggest Dr. Gabriel since he worked with the crew before that way we could get 100% working capacity and efficency.
