I had been spending all of my time in game for the last week trading, and had seen nary a one PLAYER pirate. It was getting really boring and mundane, and I was a little disappointed. When I first started playing a few weeks ago (that's like, what? 5 minutes compared to some of you?), I saw them with a lot more frequency.
So I finally get stopped by some pirates, while flying my Enterprise Liner, The.Glorious.Burden (just renamed to The.Grand.Illusion, get it? come sail away? cruise liner? sail? Styx?). After some fantastic roll play, I decided to make an escape attempt, and survived, intact.
I don't know what the rest of the community thinks about pirates, but personally, I like em (not in RP, of course). You guys are bringing an element of fun to trading, and I hope to see more.
Furthermore, once I have payed off my loan with "The Bank of Your Needs", and finished outfitting my liner with some better armor, I will be creating a role play event to encourage more pirates to take to the skies.
My intent is, using role play, to turn my enterprise The.Grand.Illusion into a resort cruise/casino. Since it is a casino, there will be a lot of 10k Sirius credit cards on board. Using the forums, I will post an "advertisement" for my resort cruise and casino, which will include a schedule, ostensibly to enable potential passengers to know where to be when they want to get on board. OORP, the purpose of this ad is to tell the pirates when and where to be. If you can find my vessel, and capture or, if necessary, kill it, you will find yourself with almost 40 million sc worth of credit cards.
So, pirates, as long as you are following the RP rules (unlike the first one I encountered, who shot off 5 of my transports turrets after I had already agreed to pay him), are being reasonable (asking for a fair amount, like 3 or 5 mill, instead of 100), I, for one, encourage your practice.
The captain of The.Grand.Illusion, however, does not share my enthusiasm...
