Restrictions on capital ship use

*ahem* It would seem this has the community divided half on one camp and half on the other, I notice it's mostly the older players that are yelling for capship restrictions and the newer ones telling them to leave off.

The in-game backlash against rogue capships (I will not use the term independent, because that is not what I mean) is getting stronger and that's where the backlash should remain, if rogue capships are kept out of big fights, if little fighters run like hell or just dodge like a mofo, then the rogues will get no fun and may trade down for something to hit the annoying bugger flying circles around his immobile wreck. I'd like to see cap ships being used sensibly, but there is no way to restrict their purchase, and the admins seem pretty set against limiting them in anyway to a particular group of players.

Imagine this is a tabletop role-playing game, you're GMing a huge group, say 12 players (I've done it, it gets hectic). You've been playing for years and then you take on a new member, he doesn't know much about RP but he's read the books and wants to play Sir Smashalot. He creates the character and by way of teaching him there's more to RP than hack and slash you, as a GM, introduce more roleplay encounters, things that require guile and diplomacy. Eventually he either gets the picture or attacks the King of Someplace, who has him smashed to floor and executed. The party gets him ressed and he does it again only to get smashed to the floor and executed, eventually Sir Smashalot gets bored of constantly being killed by a superior force the player picks another character. One that can join in the fun and games that rest of your party are having whilst he's languishing in jail. Never once do you go out of RP to guide, never once do you say, no you cannot have that, you just guide or savagely beat him until he gets the point. This method works.

Yes most of the rogues just wanna PvP, but they will get bored of losing, losing repetitvely isn't fun, and when the little guys are running away yelling insults at you, you can't even have the fun of smooshing people who can't fight back.

I doubt you will ever get the admins to give the go-ahead for a player circle vote on who gets a batlleship, sweet lord could you imagine the nepotism. Player A is in the same faction as applicant A , Player B knows this and is friendly with Player A, the vote is cast and Player A and B vote regardless of the validiity of the aplication but based on their knowledge of aplicant A, if that happens, even once, the system is fatally flawed

Giving them to Player Factions only also is ripe for abuse, a number of the factions are an excuse to give their friends power, now what happens when they are the only people allowed to fly big ships? Yup we see a different kind of cap abuser.

Raising the cost won't make a difference worth a damn and I would have voted for that one too, if more than one option was allowed. What's a couple of extra days worth of trading gonna do?

Stick them in Guard bases, RP wise it's logical that the big battleships o'doom are only going to be sold to people who are trusted. It won't change a damn thing about how many we've got flapping around.

Hit em where it hurts, in game. Make it less fun to fly them, without nerfing them even more. The Discovery communtiy can solve this problem without resorting to new server rules that only limit the freedom of an otherwise free game.
