I love how people seem to forget that some these insults (given an actual RP situation) are not what the person behind one screen wants to say to the other person behind the other screen, but merely how his/her character would act in a situation like that.

It's because it's ever apparent that those who wish to RP using those words are the types that'd wish they had the cojones to act like that in real life but knowing full well they'd get served a tasty knuckle sandwich if they did. So they use the safe distance and the anonymity of the internet as their outlet instead. A pitiful display, really.

Hi Anaximander. You and I often disagree, but this has to be the single most mindless thing you've ever said... well... ever.

Lets think of it like this. Everyone playing this game is an actor on a stage. When actors are on a stage, they are often pretending to be someone else. They are playing a character. Lets imagine the actor in question is the most polite man on earth who would never say any of those nasty horrible evil little words that everyone hates so much.

That actor is on stage pretending to be someone he is not. He is pretending to be an awful human, one who swears a lot and is abusive to people.

Is the actor doing that because that is how they want to behave in real life, but doesn't have the balls to actually do so? Hell no. That actor is behaving like that on stage because that is what the character is like. Not him... It has nothing to do with the actor... it is just the character. In the interests of making fiction, the actor behaves in a way he wouldn't normally behave.

This has nothing to do with some strange misplaced wish to be an arsehole, it has nothing to do with a secret desire to be nasty to people... It is just fiction. Nothing more.

If the actor was only playing that character because secretly he wanted to be that character, he would be a crappy actor, and the performance would have very little depth due to the indvidual being far too invested in it to see how it slots into the fiction as a whole.

It is all acting. It is all fiction. Don't read any more into it than that.

I would also suggest your little paragraph there is far more offensive than calling someone a bitch, even if it doesn't get sweary. Around theatres, the people who get served knuckle sandwiches are those who cannot differentiate between people and characters, and who start to believe that an actor is the character they are playing.

The greatest respect you can give an actor is to appreciate that the character is not him. You have failed to do this.
