Well I'll pitch in here to clarify about the "dead Slaves" thing. Our own BPA) Liner was in the area and was able to tractor in all the Slaves (along with the other human commodities) almost immediately. The human body can last a short amount of time in space (usually somewhere from 30-60 seconds) so assuming they weren't too badly roughed up by the loss of the ship (a rupture in the side would blast them out into space) they'd be safe. Perhaps not all that great, but either is a life of slavery.
