So I think everyone knows this already, but I've always seen it the same way as Lolrawr. I wouldn't walk around wearing a Tshirt that says "I SELL DRUGS" or "I ROB PEOPLE". Thusly I don't treat IDs as roleplay items.

To be honest if it was my decision I'd remove faction IDs and replace them entirely with Navy ID, Revolutionary ID, Pirate ID, Freelancer ID and so on and so forth and then do the group representation based on IFF. Reason being that it encourages teaming up and group play to represent an RP faction and I think it would help with bridging the official/indie divide a bit. It would also do a lot of good for turning the server into a more open RP one rather than forcing people to strictly adhere to a certain role. But hey, that's just me.
