I don't have much knowledge on the older versions, may be worth speaking to them on the official forums for that info.

Evochron is definitely closer to Star Citizen than Freelancer, so anyone complaining about controls etc. is going to have a bad time when Star Citizen comes out. It's far more "real" than Freelancer - and in a good way. Flying in Freelancer has always been a bit too simple and arcady for me - so Evochron wins easily on this front. Plus, you can use a joystick :-)

Granted, it has a steep learning curve, but if you can sit down and get the hang of it, I doubt you will want to touch Freelancer ever again.

I agree the Map UI is not brilliant, but then, neither is Freelancer's TBH. That's pretty much the only negative I would say about it. Once you get used to it, it's really not that bad at all. Other than that it is a far superior game to Freelancer in every single way.

It has player bases, jump drives, cloaks, lots of systems, secrets, trading, combat, mining, clan wars, fully customisable ships, fully customisable weapons (build your own!), clan quadrant control - all in the Vanilla game. Just think of the modding potential for this!

we'd all have to buy copies of the game, and then host our own servers, as there is no global server list - i asked and that was considered 'confidential information'. had some troubles setting up, and shawn is aware that there are cracked copies and keygens out there. the actual ship controls are awful - the engine gives the ship too much Dv, and so drift-fighting becomes a panic to control the bloody thing. as for hitting a target... well. compared with the 'avenging the donau' mission from SP, where a little starflea was instinctive to control, trying to kill a box floating in space was an efffort.
