"The blood will flush it's way out of your eyes in about three to four weeks..."

Damien ignores the Doctor as he blathers on to him about bed-rest, & so forth, while reaching over & releasing the valve on the pressure cup wrapped around arm of the convelessing man.

"...& you really should cut down on the drinking..."

At that, Dimi completely tunes out the Doctor's words until they become nothing more than a dull ring in the back of his mind.

Lying in his infirmary bed, he turns to his left, & stares blankly at a deformed & broken man connected to a machine closeby that is programed to breathe for him.

Damien closes his eyes & pushes out a tear as he uses his neural net to open a channel to the man that he...almost always, saw as a Father.

'You're not breathing, are you?' Dimi asked wordlessly.
'No...not at all.' scrolled the reply across his mind...the letters burning into his memory, radiating a fading, already dim light.

He has no idea how to reply to it, & feels his stomach sink.

He lifts himself up & swings his legs over the side of the bed, barking at the Doctor to give him some privacy.

The Doc begins to protest, & is met by an angrily unintelligable and gravely rasp from Damien's severely injured throat.

The Doctor feels his stomach sink, has no idea how to respond...& walks out.
