Problem with having skype-RP is the fact that:
1.) as pointed out in previous posts, VERY messy.
2.) not everyone are gifted speed-typers/readers. Some like to take time and think about their words, others are still digesting what the other said. And in the span of 10 seconds of digesting/reading, the chat would've added another 50 messages to sift through.
3.) there's gotta be an "Admin" of the chat. Rules means they must be enforced. Who's gonna enforce them? What're the punishments for such? It's different from forums-regulating because chat msgs are going at 400 meters/sec, so a potential admin ought to not only be good at pointing out OORP, but must be the equivalent of a supercomputer in his job, and know the appropriate punishments for such.
4.) timezones. 'nuff said.
there could be stuff I missed, but these are the most glaring obstacles.
Personally, I love skype-based RP. It's spontaneous, it's alive, and it's in-the-now, so it's even harder to lose momentum of keeping it up. If you can properly address these issues, I'll have little doubt that such future Bars would be great sources of story generation.
