Mod is kinda old, and I don't remember, how it was called.
Discovery 4.83 till 4.85 and ...that huge mod with a lot of sci-fi themes mixed up.
Aside of this (damn, I'm so off-top), I would love mod set in the Cataclysm Era (15-16 AHL). About those factions in such imaginary mod, I would point out that those would replace Houses, as there's in a lot of sub-factions, like Kiith for Hiigarans, Imperial Navy has a lot of subdivisions, like Imperial Guard or Border Fleet. Even Turanic Raiders have three or four subfactions. Plus The Beast also consists of two forces: The Mothership Fleet and Naggarok Fleet (Original Beast).
