Ideally, fix tradelanes, ie. temporarily make ships immortal while for the duration inside the tradelanes. I've had enough of getting nearly murdered inside tradelanes everytime I enter it in close proximity to another ship anyways.

Eh, even if ships took no damage while in the tradelane, it'd still be pretty goofy/immersion breaking/unprofessional/whatever.

Also even discounting that, what about when the front ship is just exiting the tradelane, and is no longer protected? Then here you come at a massively higher speed than they are exiting... CLONK.
