I was for the nerfthingy back in the days of .85 ... had I known how it'd turn out, I'd have been against it.
Mind you, when the technerf thingy was asked for, the techs were partially really, really unbalanced. Nowadays at least guns have been rather nicely rebalanced, at least damage-wise, so far. Ships are also a bit different now.
Now I miss the old techchart. The new 75% stuff is simply unusable for 80% of the ships, and even 90% is mostly not worth it for some. The "advantage" you get it just not worth it, often it isn't even an advantage.
Not to mention there's no RP about getting stuff anymore now. You want it? You get it. No asking, no RP, nothing. Downside now: you get a nerf. It also bugs me a lot how there's a nerf on so many things. Freelancers for example getting nerfs on every single house "item" is pretty much ridiculous. And then all those "useless" 75% cells. By now I really wish we could just throw the stuff out and go back to the "green cell - you can have it freely, yellow cell - ask for it, red cell - SRP it!"-chart without nerfs and nerfs and nerfs and nerfs and such. That thing doesn't keep people from getting weird equipment combinations either, often even makes them get even weirder stuff then before. While in .85 the weird equipment combos were limited to a few players and maybe a few factions, nowadays everyone uses whatever from everywhere and everyone.
The tech permissions of .85 should've just been regulated a bit better. The rule of "not more than 3 faction's stuff on one's ship" or such and maybe something preventing like having Outcast stuff coupled with Corsair stuff ... but then again, if you RP it good enough, decently ... I mean, ... hell, why not? I can't come up with a reason how someone would get both Corsair and OC equip, but maybe someone else can. A reason better than "I shtol eet!", of course.
So yeah, I've been for the nerfthingy. But I was severly disappointed at how it turned out. And even though now the old "Skypefriendstuff" is no longer really around and everyone has the same chances at getting at equipment, it doesn't feel right.
Why not make a vote, get the opinion of the players on the matter, and if people would like to go back to the old permission system / the old techchart without nerfs, with GREEN (can be used freely), YELLOW (permission required), RED (SRP only), then go back to it?
I know a lot of work has been put into the nerfchart, but if it isn't welcome, why keep it? Seems to be a common disease to keep stuff that's probably not even working right and causing problems and all around, even though it is unwanted by the players, just because there was a lot of work put into it. I know it's sad that time was wasted on it, if it is thrown out, but hey, that happens.
