You only have to look at the German pocket battleships in ww2 to see one quick example... sure they were hunted down and killed, but the point is the concept isn't one thats unfeasible or even unrealistic.

And how did they end? They were sunk by a few torpedo bombers:)
After that, their ships were never undefended again.
But imagine a German war battleship chasing a torpedo boat for 100 miles.. Realism?:)

I do agree on Laowai's point about passengers however.
It should be allowed to do whatever you like in main systems.
So, Outcast BS can ask an Artifact smuggler to drop his cargo in Alpha.
Corsairs can ask for Passenger Traders to drop them in Gamma.
But not out of these systems.
