Since I'm doing some escorting here are some tips:

1. Official trading factions are more likely to hire escort
2. Escorting convoys with high value cargo results in bigger vages
3. Develop own pricing system to be clear on how much to ask for services. My own system is either a share of profit or a fixed price per system passed.
4. If nothing like that on horizon then try sitting in the places with most traffic asking any traders passing if they need an escort - you'll get some refusals of cause but in the end you'll get your work.
5. Escorting is fun.
