Why would I want to fight with a colony ship?

Then why would the Neph have to stay a battleship if it doesn't need to fight?

Set, point, match

You don't put your gold in a paper bag.

Likewise you don't put your colony in a transport.

I'm saying the way I RP'd my Neph was as a colony ship with guns on it. A ship that travels into deep space, likely solo, needs to be able to defend itself. That defense is a last resort when all other diplomacy attempts have failed.

Now what I will have, is this spiky looking transport that I am supposed to take a whole colony on, families, shipmates, the whole 9 yard. That will die if a single bomber so much as looks at it the wrong way.

Have you ever fought a liner in a bomber alone? *****'s tough, liners aren't the same as a Stork



EDIT: I also want to point out that Liners are specifically designed to house and defend people. You aren't stuffing families into cargo pods

I can't say I've heard of a Liner going into deep space and looking for a new home. Liners to me have been about taking people from one established planet to another along established trade corridors with Naval patrols in the area for safety. None of that exists for Zoners, nor should it.
