Now, all things said may be true, the real issue here is player vs player interaction. Now, as a pirate things go to almost "hey there, may i pirate you?! or "2mill or die". Being a RP game, we need to focus on having fun here, so, while on a trader char stop, chat and run from the pirate- or don´t- but make it in a form that you may enjoy. While on a pirate - look at the link - create a char that you may enjoy to be but remenber always that these lolcaps around, etc, came from players that felt some kind of "injustice", or "wants their revenge"... So make them feel that in space you may be pirated, you may die, you may loose cargo, but you can have fun in it.
And yes, even if Rheinland is empty, you may find good players with great chars to interact with. So... (points at link)...
