What is to do in the server?

RPing pointless non game affecting stuff like building theme parks or blocks of apartments.

Whether intended or not, I take this as a personal attack. And given how much "pointless" writing has been done relating to the Raiders and Octavarium, I'm pretty sure it was intended.

Yeah, almost all of my writing has no effect on the game one way or the other, but here's the thing: there's more to life than what Freelancer can depict. Freelancer does not and cannot properly handle matters of economic development, any sort of construction beyond hackishly-implemented bases, the actual financial and logistical difficulties of running a colony, and hundreds of other things.

There are two schools of thought on this. The one you espouse is that we just ignore all of the "pointless" stuff and focus on what Freelancer can handle - that is, shooting people.

The other is that those of us with an interest should put in the effort to create a richer, more interesting world.

Now, if you simply don't have an interest, fine, that's one thing. If we all had the freedom to focus on what we found most interesting, I imagine the general mood of the server would be much better. I'm happiest when I'm handling writing - background stuff like colony development, diplomacy, etc. I do not enjoy fighting as much anymore; despite Aerelm's efforts, it still largely feels the same as it did six years ago when I first started playing.

But if you're going to call the hours I've put into my writing pointless, screw you and the horse you rode in on.
