[Tutorial] So you want to make your own faction.

Well, since I am at work and should be working...might as well!

Since I'm on my networks pair and have nothing to do, I'll post the things I disagree(or strongly agree) with.

Any new group is crap until proven otherwise.

Some new groups are good from the beginning. To not go long, take VWA or VR, for example. Current [HF] attempt can serve as another one.

~Not saying they are. Just that the general view on any new group which nobody knows about is "Oh god dammit, not another one."

One of the most offensive mistakes a new faction leader can make is forgetting that it is the members of the faction, who give the group their face and name.

Much agree, very true. Faction belongs to it's members, not leader.

Being able to offer a multitude of ingame actitivties will attract a lot of potential faction members, but you must not split it up too much.

Having many activities to offer is good. If one source is exhausted, yo can always switch to another one.

but these ranks do not really serve any purpose other than provide minimal in-faction competition between faction members. But in the end most factions do not look after ranking and there is no way to unseat high-ranked members when they go lazy. Most people know this when they join, so in the end the ranking system is just a gimmic, which in most cases are not needed.

The ranks are for ship restrictions. And sometimes for deciding, who's taking command in raid. There're ways to unseat high-ranked members, just most won't do this, cause said members maybe lazy, but they're also VERY experienced.

~Dunno, I find it odd that you'd want to restrict something via rank. If you think the player is too ''new'' to fly a ship class of sorts, just tell them.

One of the more foolish things you can do is make yourself a target because of a certain member of the community joining your faction.

Don't invite said member into your faction. Quite simple. Should I remind you, that you've not accepted Freeroamer into Torpedoes?

~Yes, but you can't possibly expect to know everything about every single faction member out there.

And still, time and again there are people willing to restart these abandoned or dead projects out of spite and then act surprised and angry, when it all falls apart again. Some IDs are just not meant to be played as a faction. Some factions, on the other hand, tend to be overshadowed by more successful ones.

Yet taking free-from-faction ID is your best chance to make good and fitting official faction.
