... It is suspicious that while aerelm has told us the Phantom assets were to be recycled, the Revenant submission appeared to be preped for the announcement by mwerte when the original call for a Phantom replacement was made only a few short months ago...

Rather than the Revenant submission having advance notice of the Phantom recycling, it's more that the Revenant concept was proposed in private, which then led to the decision to open up proposals from the community to see if there were any better or alternative ideas. The team voted on the submissions and picked the Revenant as it seemed relatively compatible with mod lore, and was a fairly well developed concept. As it was Garrett's idea, he would have led the player faction, but he scrapped those plans after the community vote picked the Etherium for their favourite concept; thus plans to recycle Phantom assets into a new faction were put on hold.

While this may sound harsh, that community vote did not explicitly transfer the mantle of Phantom-replacement-faction to the Etherium group. In the meantime, the Dev team has found other good uses for the Phantom assets, which aligns with the broader community opinion of "no Phantom-replacement faction at all"; as the mod is already considered to be larger than it needs to be, this seemed like a sensible choice.
