Technically speaking, the ex-Phantom ID could be recycled for the Etherium ID. However, for that to happen, an Etherium ID would have to be approved first. Since the Etherium is a non-canonical faction, they would have to first achieve Official status on another ID, and then request a faction ID (for reference, see the process the Vagrant Raiders went through).

In the meantime, the Dev team has found other good uses for the Phantom assets, which aligns with the broader community opinion of "no Phantom-replacement faction at all"; as the mod is already considered to be larger than it needs to be, this seemed like a sensible choice.

Whoa, now this is confusing. Especially the second quote of yours. From the way i see it, the Mod is already larger than it needs to be so Etherium, with its separate ship line would exist only if it replaces another asset? Even if we get official status?

No, not necessarily. A future Etherium ship line, for example, would likely be added as new content, not replacement content. That's the point that was being explained above - any Etherium-related content would have to be a new content submission, not a replacement content submission, as there are now no "unused content slots" to replace.
