Eugh. Don't even bother using that damn thing.

I just export the same model* to another CMP in MS3D, hardpoint that, then copy the hardpoints over to the CMP exported from 3ds Max.

* note: you'll have to strip out any detail beyond ~19000 polys. So long as the base shape and where your hardpoints will go are still in the model exported by MS3D, you're in the clear.
