Doc continued with the business angle of their meeting. "Bio domes may indeed save lives but they also deliver independence. You can raise most of what you need for food and some medicines. They can be time consuming to build but the end results are worth the wait."
Doc took a sip of his drink as he watched Thing get comfortable. He didn't know if it was the liquor or just her natural attractiveness as she brushed her hair aside but for now, he continued, "Think of it. If we get one built here for Foster, imagine getting one built for say, Alcatraz or any other Rogue base. It could be more independence for all Rogues everywhere but yes, one base at time I know."
He smirked a little, "Yes, I know where most of them are, have traded on them and played a few hands of cards on them but what I don't do is publicize my trips to them AND I ensure that I don't attract unwanted attention going to them."
He didn't make it obvious that he was taking an interest in her. Rather, he commented on her.
"Escaping my past was never easy," he explained, "When one has nothing to lose, they are the most dangerous. There was a time where I was already a dying man but I saw the value of saving a friend or just someone who had more potential than they realized. I still have a fast draw, I have killed men, even not so long ago, for reasons less than honorable. I may save a lot of lives but with the constant fighting and warring, I'm labeled an enemy by many since I'll patch up someone so that they can go out and either kill or be shot up again."
He took another sip, "If I had a credit for every time someone said to me that I was siding with their enemy, I could by ten dreadnoughts modified for medical use and have money left over."
He then sighed, "Now, when I need a place and time to think, I retreat to my cabin on planet Erie. It's on a small lake away from most people and few know of it."
He looked at Thing, "If for any reason you wish to just get away for awhile, go there. Take my ship or get a ride on my transport and no one will know of your presence and just take time to yourself. I think you will find the peace, serenity and solitude will be rewarding."
