"Nor would I," he returned smiling, a kiss to follow. He gave her a light squeeze as he released her, knowing that they had to make some progress riding. Climbing on their now rested horses, they continued on. While the conversation was constant, he couldn't get her touch off of his mind. The only evidence of his thoughts were those occasional delays answering a question.
They came out of a small patch of evergreens and could see the bare trees of a swampy area in the distance. Doc put his arm out to stop them both as he grabbed the binoculars. He wanted to see what, if anything, might be out. That's when he thought he saw something move. "I think we might have something out there," he said softly. Climbing off his horse and tying it to a nearby tree, he handed Ashlea the binoculars and pointed at what appeared to be an Elk at the swamp's edge.
"Hard to tell from here but if he's in the water, it's to our advantage," he explained as he grabbed the heavy rifle.
He looked down the scope to get a better view. As he looked, his smile grew.
"Oh yeah," he whispered, "Ohhhh yeeeeaaahhh."
"Ashlea, get your rifle ready," he told her, "we go on foot from here."
