Dude, you're 16 years old. Most people can hardly make a decision over whether or not they went cereal or toast in the morning at any point in their life... You're looking at joining the forces, and you've literally only just finished secondary school.

A lot of friends of mine thought the same. They thought it'd be a good career path, or they'd get some discipline in their lives, or that it looked like fun, or that they wanted to feel like they were 'part of something'... So some of them joined up. Some of those people ended up in Iraq and Afghanistan. Two of them didn't come back, and the ones that did come home are now deeply unhappy people.

I subscribe this fully.

Serving is no joke, and not do be done lightly.
It is nothing *bad* or *evil* , but if somebody in the hierarchy above you decides to send you to *get things done* , you have little choice. And still : every country desperately needs people to do what is neccesary. Just remember : Those in Power rarely deserve the responsibility they have. So... joining service is nothing done *for fun*.

On the other hand : If your in it, go for it.
Take every thing you can learn, every place you can see, and make the best out of it.

I spent 27 years 11 months in the Royal Navy. Like all aspects of life it had its good points and its bad.

I would suggest that you think about the day that you decide to leave. With that in mind I would suggest getting a Trade behind you. If you are going to join the British Army possibly the REME for Engineering or the Royal Corp of Signals (if that is still going) for Communication Skills or the Logistic Corp etc.

Being in the Forces is not everybody's cup of Tea. Some people excel in it and others hate it. You learn a lot about yourself and also learn how to be a member of a Team.

You will have a lot of opportunities to do things that most people will never get a chance to do. Grasp them whilst you can.

Pilots are nice but learning how to make it fly is even better, you know, aircraft maintenance.
Remember, pilots need heroes too!!
Take it from one who fixes medivac helicopter for a living in RL!! Pilots don't fly until I say they do!
