Die Haie
"The Sharks"

Summary

Die Haie are a smaller group within the Bounty Hunters Guild. Although much of their activity is similar to the Guild at large, the composition and organization of die Haie differ greatly from the rest of the Guild.

While the Guild is known to largely consist of reformed criminals, die Haie is almost exclusively made up of ex-police and military pilots, upset by the pay or the prospective which their position offered. Additionally, while many people are drawn to the Guild by the freedom it offers, members of die Haie retain the stricter organization and hierarchy introduced to them by their previous occupation - chiefly a system of rank.

Note that die Haie, however, are not autonomous, and still operate inside of the Bounty Hunters Guild as a whole, with all that that entails.

Origin

Die Haie began its life in Rheinland, and to this day still pulls most of its initiates from the ranks of the Rheinland Federal Police and Military. After the economic fallout that followed the 819 A.S. Interspace Commerce debacle in Rheinland, the Bundestag found it more and more difficult to provide for the people of Rheinland. This included its ability to fund the Military and the Federal Police, and salaries were cut across the board.
While many officers were upset by this, there weren't many options available to them. Rheinland corporations suffered similarly, and employment with them would be just as bad, if not worse. The only feasible alternative was to join the Bounty Hunters Guild, but to most members of the Military and Police the Guild was not attractive, given it's large composition of criminals and relative lax organization.
This complacency continued until the summer of 820 A.S, when former officer of the Federal Police Hans Frey came up with a unique solution to the problem of agreeable employment. He, along with a small circle of fellow officers and representatives from the Guild itself, conceived die Haie aboard the battle-torn Bonn Station.

Growth

With permission from the Bounty Hunters Guild, Frey began to recruit disgruntled police and military officers from around Rheinland. The majority came because of the potential for higher pay, but some came for more idealistic reasons. Many, especially the younger officers, were simply losing faith in the Rheinland Military during the grinding war with Liberty.
As die Haie gained traction, applicants even came in from other parts of Sirius. From Bretonia and Liberty alike, police, naval, and armed forces officers came flocking to the movement for one reason or another: better pay, greater opportunity, escape from corruption, you name it. If there was a reason to dislike employment in traditional lawful forces, there was a reason to join die Haie. Its ranks are now filled with many competent pilots.

Today

Modern operations for die Haie are much the same as for the rest of the Guild, albeit with a stronger focus on group action. While an individual bounty hunter may be compelled to take on a high-reward contract for a single target, and a member of die Haie is certainly able to do so, they tend instead to work in teams covering blanket bounties. Die Haie patrol groups are a common sight in Rheinland, Liberty, Bretonia, and southern Kusari, and they fulfill a similar role to that which they would have done as officers, only without actually working for the Houses.

Rank System

The ranks among die Haie are as follows:

Chief - Elected
Elected annually from among the Senior Members the Chief is, in essence, the boss. All decisions made by the Chief are final.
The Chief is permitted to use any technology and ship class available to die Haie.

Senior Member - Requires 50 Points
A Senior Member has withstood the test of time, and is a veteran among die Haie.
Senior Members are permitted to use any technology and ship class available to die Haie.

Standard Member - Requires 10 Points
A Standard Member, or just Member, falls in between Junior and Senior Membership. Most of die Haie will fall into this rank.
Standard Members are permitted to use any technology available, and are able to fly snubcraft, freighters, transports, and shared gunboats/ships.

Junior Member - Requires Successful Initiate Period
Junior Members are most often Initiates that have recently been accepted into die Haie, but many can remain this rank if they do not prove their worth.
A Junior Member is permitted to use any technology line, but is restricted to snubcraft, freighters, and transports with holds less than or equal to 3600.

Initiate - Requires Successful Application
Initiates are those under consideration for membership. After a suitable period, they will be either accepted into die Haie or dismissed.
Initiates may only use civilian technology, and are able to fly fightercraft only.

Movement Through Ranks
Promotion through the higher ranks is accomplished by accumulating "points" while working for die Haie. Points are earned by being an active participant in the faction.
  • Making a quality MD post - 1 Point (claimable once every 48 hours)
  • Successfully claiming a Bounty Board bounty using a die Haie ship - 1 Point
  • Participating in a scheduled group activity - 2 Points
  • Additional Points may be dispersed by the Chief at his disgression

Code of Conduct
  • Avoid OORP (//) nonsense whenever possible in system and local chat
  • RP is paramount - "u have a bounty now die" is unacceptable
  • Respect players of higher rank. This does not mean follow them blindly, but don't instigate anything unnecessarily.
  • Be polite and cooperative. I'm looking for a strong emphasis on group play.
  • If you think something sucks about the faction, do something to make it better.
  • Have fun!

Misc. Comments

My goal with this faction is to bring increased lawful activity to the server, and to make it as fun as possible to participate.

I imagine frequent (daily?) scheduled group patrols and combat training sessions, announced in the group Skype.

I want people to want to play on their die Haie ship, for the fun, comradery, and good ol' fashioned pew pew.

Recruitment should begin shortly if the community doesn't hate the concept.
