I didn't say the method wasn't effective, of course it's a working method because the majority of people in this world are stupid and easily manipulated into doing something, especially when it's a close friend causing it.
70 million dollars is 70 million dollars, sure. But instead of it being money people gave out of the kindness of their heart, it's money given begrudgingly and out of a sense of guilt and owing. That's not how charities are supposed to function.
Instead of people looking back on this in 2 years and saying "oh yeah, that was when I gave $100 to help ALS, I'm glad I did that", instead they will be saying "oh yeah, that was when -insert friend's name here= made me donate $100 because I didn't do that challenge... I wish I did that challenge, I'd be $100 richer now...".
ALS awareness will be looked at as a fad, rather than a cause people got behind together.
